چکیده

R. W., an 82 year old man, presented with a painful weakness of the right upper limb following a fall over an armchair. Chest radiography showed "a right apical shadow" and a presumptive diagnosis of Pancoast's tumour was made. Both bronchoscopy and mediastinoscopy were normal. Two weeks later a repeated clinical examination revealed a mass in the right axilla (8 x 8 cm in diameter). The right radial pulse was diminished and there was a discrepancy of 30 mmHg in systolic pressure between the two arms. An arch aortogram was performed and confirmed the presence of a right axillary

Axillary artery injury combined with delayed brachial plexus palsy due to compressive hematoma in a young patient: a case report

INTRODUCTION Axillary artery injury in the shoulder region following blunt trauma without association with either shoulder dislocation or fracture of the humeral neck has been previously reported. Axillary artery injury might also be accompanied with brachial plexus injury. However, delayed onset of brachial plexus palsy caused by a compressive hematoma associated with axillary injury after blu...

Rhomboid nerve transfer to the suprascapular nerve for shoulder reanimation in brachial plexus palsy: A clinical report.

Recovery of shoulder function is a real challenge in cases of partial brachial plexus palsy. Currently, in C5-C6 root injuries, transfer of the long head of the triceps brachii branch is done to revive the deltoid muscle. Spinal accessory nerve transfer is typically used for reanimation of the suprascapular nerve. We propose an alternative technique in which the nerve of the rhomboid muscles is...

Improvement in abduction of the shoulder after reconstructive soft-tissue procedures in obstetric brachial plexus palsy.

Residual muscle weakness in obstetric brachial plexus palsy results in soft-tissue contractures which limit the functional range of movement and lead to progressive glenoid dysplasia and joint instability. We describe the results of surgical treatment in 98 patients (mean age 2.5 years, 0.5 to 9.0) for the correction of active abduction of the shoulder. The patients underwent transfer of the la...

Multiple variations involving all the terminal branches of the brachial plexus and the axillary artery – a case report

Several case reports on variations of the brachial plexus have been reported in the literature. These reports provide valuable information for understanding the clinical signs related to neuropathy of varying origins. The authors of this report present a case that involved all the terminal branches of the brachial plexus and the axillary artery in a cadaver used for routine teaching practice. F...

Brachial Plexus Birth Palsies

We reviewed 19 children who had undergone a new modification of the L’Episcopo procedure for obstetric brachial plexus palsy. Through an axillary approach the latissimus dorsi tendon was re-routed anteriorly to the humerus and then anastomosed to the teres major tendon routed posteriorly. At an average follow-up of four years two months, the mean increase in shoulder abduction was 26 and the me...
